WARNING: Budding and Serial Entrepreneurs

Damn, life is pretty tough at the moment. Food is costing a mint, petrol is through the roof and it doesn't look like it's gonna get better anytime soon. 

It really seems as if everyone's battening down the hatches and waiting for the storm to pass. 

But not us, entrepreneurs though. Here we are still looking for the next big thing. 

Kinda funny actually, while everyone else is bracing themselves for the hit, we're out in the storm looking for an opportunity. 

It's only natural, really. What else are we expected to do? Listen to the doom and gloom and take it? Nah, no way.

If you're a true entrepreneur right about now, you're probably itching to make some money to get yourself of this economic nightmare. And, why not?

Sure, starting a new venture right now is definitely risky. Entrepreneurship is always risky and if you have the upper hand you can do everything in your power to cover your butt as much as possible.

So, what's the upper hand?

Marketing. 

Before you starting screaming "what the...?" Don't worry – we're not talking about some flashy-motor-mouth-advertising-executive. 

We're talking about you becoming a master of communication and sales with the ability to

Now before we talk about the right way let's take a look at why it goes so wrong for some entrepreneurs. 

You don't have to be a rocket scientist to realise many shattered entrepreneurs lose their shirts because they either picked the wrong opportunity or they just didn't know how to maximise the right opportunity which landed in their lap.

And, we believe the major deal breaker is they didn't truly understand the essence of marketing and sales. 

You see, unskilled entrepreneurs think the way to riches is developing a product or idea so unique people are going to lining up the block to come and get it. 

This is so, so wrong because they haven't given any real thought to find the person who'll actually buy and use it. 




Watch any reality tv business program like Dragon's Den and you’ll see exactly what we mean. 

Time and time again you see wannabe entrepreneurs expect to receive $1000s for their next 'big' idea. They've spent all their time on developing and manufacturing the product (in fact some will even have 1000s of the thing sitting in their garage ready for sale). 

(Haven't you ever sat through one of these programs and thought to yourself "Who the heck would ever want that?")

Now, that's not the only problem – the other glaring problem is they can't sell it. They haven't even made one sale. 

They can't sell it to anyone because they're terrified of selling themselves and their product and what's even worse – they don't even know who to sell to. 

They don't even know where to find these imaginary hordes of people who are supposedly dying to have their product. 

Quite frankly, they haven't even got a clue if anyone actually wants their product.

They've committed the no.1 crime in marketing and business success – they were all about the product and not about the people or customers.

If you've ever been involved in network marketing, you'll have seen it time and time again. Usually all you're ever told is it's all about the product. They'll tell you its awesome, ground breaking, better than anything else ever seen etc, etc. 

Then, they'll tell you it's easy to sell because well… because… it’s just sooo awesome. 

All you have to do is round up all your friends and family, and sell it to them. Easy money, yeah right!

Good grief, was your friend even interested in the latest advances of vitamins,
e-commerce, or plastic kitchenware? Or did they just cave in and buy it because they couldn't stand your harassment anymore?

They've got you focussed on the wrong thing – the product and unless you've got a marketing expert in your up-line showing you the ropes, you're done for.

If this sounds like similar mistakes you've done in the past, it's not your fault. Really, you didn't know any different and plenty of people just like you are still making these mistakes. 



Luckily, you're different because you're doing something about it.

You don't have to keep going from one opportunity (or product) to another to find the pot of gold. (Anyway, we're willing to bet you've now pissed off at least some of your family and friends. They don't want to hear about your next fabulous business opportunity – ever). 

Leave the rubber necking at every possible goldmine to everyone else and start making yourself a better entrepreneur – by getting the right skills. 

Hear us out - let's say you're the most optimistic, hyped up, nothing in the world is gonna get you down 'butterfly' swimmer. 

You're going all the way to the Olympics. 

You train everyday. You read and listen to all the right motivation guys to keep you pumped up. And, each year you try to qualify for the 'butterfly' event, but you can’t figure out why you can't get into team. 

After years of trying you decide to take the time to watch other successful butterfly swimmers. Finally, it dawns on you – you're doing the breast stroke.

Okay, that's an extreme example.

But this is what keeps struggling entrepreneurs on the hamster wheel. 

While their hearts in the right place, they're concentrating on the wrong skill or they been unable to look around for the right help.

We don't care how many experts or expensive software you've got up your sleeve helping you – if you haven't got marketing and sales you're throwing yourself against a brick wall.

This is why as an entrepreneur you must become an expert marketer

You've got to know how to sell and how to attract customers to your business.

To be a successful entrepreneur you need to be able to:

Sniff out your prospective customers
Raise their curiosity
Make them take action

And, give 'em something of value so they'll happily open their wallets for you.

Right now, as an entrepreneur you've probably got 2 or 3 skills maybe:

You can spot a good idea
You're great at convincing people to believe in you
You're the person who’s not afraid of taking a punt

And, to become a truly successful entrepreneur you've got to have an arsenal of skills because you’re the one running the show.
